Kennsington Library and Zentangle

Kensington Library is a quaint little library tucked away in a lovely town in San Diego, Cali.   Several adults got together this evening and began their Zentangle journey (a couple were continuing it).  I shared the history, philosophy and benefits of Zentangle Method.  If you haven't had a class from a Certified Zentangle Teacher, I would encourage it.  We have been trained by the co-founders that design the method.

When will you start your Zentangle journey and start to relax, focus, and have fun at the same time?

Scripps/Miramar Library all Tangled Up

Look at this gem of a library at Scripps Ranch, San Diego California.
Beautiful, mission feel to this lovely, tucked away library.

We got all tangled up in Zentangle Art at the library this evening.  Such a beautiful location.  How do I know? I arrived at the library early (you never know what the San Diego Freeway traffic is going to be like), and after seeing the little pond with ducks next to the library... remembered that right next door was Miramar Lake.  Wow, this 5 mile loop was filled with walkers, bikers, runners and families. The drive got me into the Zen zone and ready to teach a Zentangle class.

Miramar Lake - San Diego, Cali

This was a big class with lots of ages, I call this multi-generation Zentangle class.  Nice when a family can come together and learn something fun for everyone and continue to engage in together.  Thanks Trevor ( branch manager), and the Friends of the Library, for inviting me to your beautiful library.

This was some of our art we created today.  I like to take a photo after class, and let the students observe the magic.
Seeing all the art together shows that even with same instruction, we all create our own art with our own flair.

A lot of folks think they can't engage in art because they are not artistic. The co-founders of this art method - Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, designed Zentangle Art Method to take the "hard" out of art.  By drawing structured patterns, any age can easily complete a "tile".  If you can draw a circle and a straight line - you got this.  Try it.

This artist - was an architect and as she said, " I drew lines for a living and enjoyed the class".  Zentangle is for every age, for ever level of artist or non-artist and for lots of different media.  Use Zentangle for journaling, wall murals, quilting, clothing, ceramic,  add to other media's you engage in, etc.

The below, little artist,  was pre-school age (adorable).  You can see she was able to complete two art pieces.  I never heard a peek out of her the entire 1.5 hours because  Zentangle gets you out of your head and onto paper. I could be teaching one or 125 kids at the same time, same thing happens - a quiet room for the duration of drawing.

The extra benefit of Zentangle, it puts you into a state of well-being  - happy place.  While you are engaged in drawing the patterns "tangles",  your thoughts are just drawing the lines, not anything else for the moment.

Lakeside Library "Greetings" Zentangle Class

Welcome everyone that joined me today at Lakeside Library (East County - San Diego, CA).  We went out of the basic Zentangle tile today and completed a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) -- that means that we took the art method and applied the patterns in a fun way.  Zentangle is normally abstract, no ups or down with the art piece.  With no up or down, the art keeps a meditative feel, more abstract.  Once you step away from abstract it creates more thought process and not as relaxing, but still fun and creative and relaxing enough.

With the holidays coming upon us quickly, this Zentangle Pumpkin Greeting Card Class was perfect timing to start creating your own personalize cards and not have to buy them. TIP FROM ME:  If you have lots of cards to send out, make a original Zentangle tile and then copy.  Still personal but you don't have to make each card individually.

We had a great time today, 15 folks and lots of Zentangle fun.  Thanks for inviting me Lakeside Library.

P.S. We had a guest speaker today before class from the Lakeside Friends of the Library and she shared they are building a brand new library for Lakeside and will increase their size to double with a community room.  Whoo hoo.  Thanks Friends of the Library.

Diva Weekly Challenge #332

Weekly Challenge #332 "String it: 2² (two squared)"I thought for my first challenge back I'd go with something pretty simple.  So this week's challenge is to create a tile or piece using a string consisting of two squares!

This weeks challenge was pretty easy.  This was actually one of my tiles I created at a Zentangle class.  Yesterday, while waiting for my class to start, I remember it was a box inside a box (four times).  Since I was early to my class, I started drawing my tile so you could see on the over head projector, and watch the students come into class and see the magic of dtrawing structured patterns.  Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  My challenge was completed in 8 short minutes.

Mission Hills Library Zentangle Kids Day

If you Zentangle, kids will come.  Today, I shared Zentangle Art Method with kids (and some parents), about 25 eager to learn, at Mission Hills Library in San Diego, California.

I was lucky to get to class today.  San Diego Interstate 8 had a water break (sink hole) and 20 foot gusher that closed the freeway and created a "traffic from hell" reaction on all the streets around. Thank goodness for alerts on your I-phone and I was able to go a back route to class.

During today's Zentangle class, we learned a basic Zentangle tile and then had fun with Mr. Robotic.

The traffic issue brought kids late to class but still this girl had fun creating her own tile with Knightsbridge tangle.

Beyond Basic Zentangle with Alina

Today, I was fortunate to have Alina,  join me at my home for a private Beyond Basic Zentangle Class.  I have to say, this is my favorite class to teach.  After you graduate from your first Introduction to Zentangle class (I call that kindergarten) you can get into the meat and potatoes of string theory, embellishments, more advanced "tangles", Shading, step-outs, tangleations (variation of patterns), tango's (dancing two patterns together), and how to get a image onto your tile.

Mahalo Alina, for joining me today at my home.  Love the one-on-one special time spent together.

University Community Library UTC

Today was an easy six minute drive to my local Library, University Community Library in UTC, San Diego, CA.  I taught an Introduction to Zentangle class in their lovely community room. Many of the librarians are not able to sit in on this new, unique art class due to having to be available for the patrons.   Zentangle  it is uniquely different than any other art class you have been to. Zentangle can also be put into the category of not only art, but wellness.    Happy to see the Library Manager, Melissa, join the class today. Thanks Mellissa. I always say you don't get it, till you do it.
