Champagne Village Gets Zentangle'ized

I've been to Lawrence Welk Resort in San Diego, California  I'm actually a timeshare owner.  Suzie, from the Champagne Village (55 plus resort next to Lawrence Welk invited me to share Zentangle in their community room.

Eighteen of us tangled and learned about this new secret gem art method.  I love to share the "ah-ha" moment when everyone in the rooms realized Zentangle art method takes the HARD out of art. Everyone can enjoy the fun and beauty of creating something intricate and complicated looking but easy enough for kids to do.

Tangle Folk arrived at Kensington/Normal Heights Library

What a fun class 8/26/18.  I shared Billie Lauder CZT, famous Zentangle Tangled Folk with the Kensington/Normal Heights Library in San Diego, California.

We squeezed 13 into the 10 seats available and began creating this whimsical continued line art along with Joanne Fink's dangled art.

Side Story:  My daughter went out of town at the last minute and I signed up to watch her 4 month old choc lab..... Well if you have every been with a infant - same thing.  I barely got my teeth brushed to get to class today.  But Marley dog is soooo cute  Look at that face.

Okay, back to class.  I swear I brushed my hair this morning.

This lovely student came in with my favorite flower the Plumeria.  She said she used to live in Hawaii.  What a breath of fresh air to see.


My backyard is very tropical and I have 50ish plumeria planets.  The backyard is smelling very nice with all the blooms.  Here are a couple of blooms from my yard.

 

A student, visiting her sister here all the way from Tennessee, thought tangle folk reminded her of the 1970's doll -  called Holly Lobby.  Thank for joining class today.

Rick and Maria

The Zentangle Method was designed by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.  I thought you might like to see a picture of them, as well as a post where they will be sharing Zentangle as a lecturer. 

Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts will deliver a lecture on the art of Zentangle, a controlled form of drawing simple, repetitive patterns to create visually impressive images while improving focus and creativity. 

Thomas and Roberts will discuss what the Zentangle Method is, how it began, and the phenomenon it's become. By combining the lecture with images and demonstrations, they will relate the Zentangle story to Golden Age American illustrators and the works featured at the NMAI.

Hopefully this will spark your interest to find a Certified Zentangle Teacher that was trained by Rick and Maria and start your Zentangle journey.  Look at my classes icon on top of my blog for a class near you.  Hope to see you soon.

Oasis Finds Their Summer Zentangle Garden

The Zentangle Club got into a garden theme tile today.  Using tone gray paper, we used our black pen and white gelly roll to shade this tile.

We had seven students - some familiar faces from the other Zentangle Club classes and always a couple new students to the Zentangle Method.  

Oasis is for students 50 plus.  I won't have classes in the fall at Oasis but hopefully will be back next January. Always check this blog for more classes and different locations around San Diego County.

Kensington Community Church Welcomes Zentangle

With the warm summer nights in San Diego, I was welcomed to teach at Kensington Community Church.  While the kids were upstairs at their events, the 15 adults started their Zentangle journey.

I love sharing this art method because most folks haven't heard of Zentangle, much less know that it is a secret gem.  During the hour class I shared the history, philosophy and gifts that Zentangle will bring to you once you begin "tangling".

Thanks Barbara for inviting me once again to the church event.  FYI - beautiful church and beautiful people.

Allied Gardens Library

This Zentangle class was at Allied Gardens Library in San Diego, CA.  I've taught multiple teen (after school) Zentangle classes but this was my first adult Zentangle class.  What a great turnout.  I even met a couple teachers from my daughter Elementary School.  Such a small world.  

The sweet woman on the left above before class said she couldn't draw.  I love proving folks wrong. Look at that smile!

  Zentangle takes the HARD out of art.  If you can draw a circle and straight line you can tangle.

Friends from Healthy Living Class

I shared Zentangle with friends of my Healthy Living Class.  My treat to share this one-of-a-kind, unique, new art method and get that "ah ha" moments when they get it.  Thanks Robin, Mike and Sharon.

Koi Zen Cellars Winery Uncork and Unwind with Zentangle

                                      

This is Lisa Miller.  Her and her husband, Darius, own Koi Zen Cellars Winery in Carmel Mountain Ranch, San Diego, CA.  The   winery has a Zen feel with a Koi pond and fountains.  Namasta

One my good friends, Barbara, is a member at this winery.  She mentioned to Lisa about Zentangle. Lisa was intrigued.  With the name Koi Zen - it made perfect sense that Zentangle and Koi Zen winery would be a perfect fit.  I met with Lisa at their beautiful winery and demonstrated the art method.   We scheduled a class that day.  

Last night we had a packed house with 20 wine lovers eager to learn something new.  Zentangle is a secret gem.  Not many folks know about this new, unique art method.  

The class fee included two Zentangle projects and a complimentary glass of Koi Zen wine.  The first hour, I taught Introduction to Zentangle, then took a break for another delicious glass of vino, then continued on with a fun ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) tortoise.  

This was some to the students first tile.  Zentangle is typical black and white with abstract feel.  This helps you stay in a meditative state when their is no direction but drawing structured patterns.

We had several groups come to class  This was the meet up group "Active Lifestyle Nerds".  They even brought the perfect addition to the evening:  cheese, crackers and grapes.  Thanks Melody - the organizer - for bringing your group.
