Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon and Tropical Zentangle

Aloooooha, from the Poway Library in San Diego, California.

Today I was asked to share The Zentangle Method at the library's Hawaiian luncheon to thank 25 of the over 100 volunteers they have at this branch.  Kalua pork with beautiful Hawaiian decorations topped off with a lei.

I asked if anyone had heard of Zentangle and no one raised their hand.  I LOVE to share this secret gem. The founders of Zentangle designed an art method that takes the HARD out of art.  Easy to learn, easy to do, and is meditative and relaxing - healing art.  Four dots, connect, and add patterns.  Simple.

I design an easy beginner Zentangle tile with a tropical feel.  Here are some pics we shared after class.  One sweet volunteer said "look what I made".  She never considered herself an artist.  Did you know the definition of artist in the dictionary is "one that engages in art".

Gotta give a shout out to Karen and the rest of the crew at the library for treating the volunteers to a wonderful luncheon to thank them for all the many hours they give to the library.  I was told today that the library couldn't run without them. (Don't forget the FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY.)

Aloha and Mahalo to all the volunteers and library staff for a fun day.

Scripps/Miramar Library and The Zentangle Method

April 18th, 2018

Today at Scripps/Miramar Library in San Diego, California, I welcomed 15 (12 first time) students to an Introduction class to The Zentangle Method.  Zentangle is for kids, teens, men, women, and seniors.

Zentangle is an easy art method that takes the HARD out of art by drawing structured patterns.  During the process you relax, calm down and get into a state of well-being - healing art.

Zentangle has been proven to help many issues:  depression, anxiety, bereavement, chronic medical conditions, Cancer therapy, pain management, essential tremors/Parkinson disease (eye-hand coordination), early art development for kids, journaling, guided art, self-esteem, self-confidence. But mostly, ZENANGLE IS FUN.

When you begin your Zentangle journey, you start in "kindergarten".  Basic first, then we can advance to more patterns (tangles) and many ways to apply the patterns.  You can apply Zentangle patterns to most media's: quilting, ceramics, fabric, metal.

If you haven't done so already, visit this beautiful library. Bring a little food for the ducks in the pond outside. Thank you Friends of Library and Scripps Library for asking me to share Zentangle at your library.

La Mesa Library - Found and Tangled

At La Mesa Library (San Diego, California),  we found a beautiful story inside a story on a book pages with The Zentangle Method.  During my Zentangle Found and Tangled Workshop, fourteen of us searched a book page, and created a story inside a story then tangled with patterns.
