Zentangle and Ruth Bader Ginsburg

 Not to get into politics - but RBG has some amazing accomplishments during her life.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg one of only four females Supreme Court Justices in history. 
A couple of her many accomplishments while in office.

-Women have the right to financial independence and equal benefits.

Ginsburg’s work paved the way for the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, which passed 
in 1974 and allowed women to apply for bank accounts, credit cards, and mortgages
without a male co-signer. She also helped ensure that women could receive the same
military housing allowances as men, and women are no longer required to pay more
for pension plans than men to receive the same benefits, according to the ACLU.

-Men are entitled to the same caregiving and Social Security rights as women.  
Throughout her career, Ginsburg stressed how gender equality benefits both men and women. 

In 1968, Ginsburg represented Charles Moritz, a man who had never been married and claimed a tax deduction for caring for his mother, according to Smithsonian Magazine. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) denied his deduction because he was a man and unmarried. The US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit ruled that the IRS had violated the Equal Protection Clause of the US Constitution and in 1971 Section 214 of the IRS Code was amended to allow individuals to claim caregiving deductions, regardless of sex.

-Juries must include women.

Today Zoom class, 7/24/21, we thank her for all her efforts for the people. I was suggested to design a class of a famous person.  Jeanette, a student, suggested Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  This class is the design I came up with.

Zoom Zentangle Class Zendala (In the round) Swim

 7/10/21, I couldn't resist to share a fun class I designed after San Dieguito Synchronized Swim Team Coach asked me to teach a Zentangle class.  She said the kids had been so stressed out that sitting in on a Zentangle class might relax them from the COVID stress.

This class was created in a Zendala style - which is Zentangle Mendala idea - in the round. I added some swimmers to bring the kids theme in to create interest.

Today's class, Sharon, said she wanted to take this class because it reminded of her swim class that they called each other the "mermaids".  Summer is amongst us and who doesn't love the ocean or pool in San Diego during the summer.

Zentangle Flower Collage

6/26/21 - Today's class was all about floral tangles.  Using a collage of boxes we applied floral tangles to give a cool flower collage look.

Using graytone paper/gray cardstock, black pen, white Gelly Roll pen, The white Gelly Roll pen is the shading per se instead of shading with pencil. We did do a little graphite shading to pop a couple tangles out.

We tangled 16 tangles in two hours. Susan, Monica, Patricia, Elyce joined class today.  Fantastic work y'all.  Thanks for forwarding your art Monica and Eylce.

Koi Zentangle Class

 Another fun Zoom class today, 6/5/21.  First I shared a creative way to trace a object and apply on paper.  Then, we applied tangles using the Zentangle Method to add some "POP" to the art.  

A little color goes a long way with the Zentangle art.  The tangles speak for themselves.  

Mother's Day Zentangle Floral Mason Jar

5/8/21  Devon, Kristen and Julie join me to create a floral mason jar greeting card using the Zentangle Method.  I choose to go rustic with the project today.  Off white cardstock, kraft blank envelope 
we added raffia, twine or ribbon to get that country look.

Zentangle Class from a Distance for the White Family

4/24/21, Carol has taken several Zentangle classes from me and thought her family would enjoy learning about Zentangle as a fun family time together.  

Today in class was Carol, her husband Lee,
daughter Cheryl  (from Portland, Oregon) with boyfriend, son 10 and daughter 8 
Marcy (from Anchorage, Alaska) with daughters, 15, 9 and 6. 

Marcy recently had knee surgery on pain meds and was still able to create our project today. By the way, Zentangle is a great pain management therapy.   

With so many different ages in class, I geared this class to the youngest age (6).  This is a class is a favorite for first grade classes, so it was perfect.  Adults also like taking this class because you still learn tangles, but are applied to a "string" that looks like a dragonfly instead of typical abstract string.

Side note:  This family was very colorful - great hair color choices. 

When coloring with Zentangle patterns, you don't need too much color. 
 The patterns speak for themselves.  Just a hint if any, of color does goes a long way. 
This yellow background really does highlight the tangles.  Good job.

Zentangle and Covid Masks

4/24/21  The Zentangle class today we used a "string" that looked like someone in the medical profession with a mask on. So easy to create a simple greeting card for a person in your life to say I think you are awesome.

Thank you to all the medical and front line workers for coming to our needs this pandemic.  I just had to create a class that referenced our time during COVID.  A shout all to all that made us safe and helped us heal.

Kids to seniors LOVE how easy Zentangle is.  Zentangle is so easy, you just have to choose some "tangles (that what we call the patterns) and put into sections.
