SDSU Detangle with Zentangle

3/22/21, I was asked to teach a Zentangle class for SDSU Allies for Education.

Basic/Introduction to the Zentangle Method was the topic for class today. Sharing the history, philosophy, applications, and steps to create an original Zentangle tile. Zentangle was design for
those intimidated by art.  No rulers, no erasers, no mistakes. This method is different than any
other art media.

On the Road Again with Zentangle - VW Bus 3/20/21

 Zooooooooooooooooooooooooom to a dream of traveling soon.  This Zentangle class was inspired as the COVID vaccine might let us see the light at the end of the tunnel.  

Our Zentangle string today looked a lot like a VW bus.  Using the Zentangle Method, we created a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art).  Whether you leave black and white, or add a bit of color to our sunset van, the tangles speak for themselves.  Zentangle is interesting and pop any art media piece.

                                     

                          

Zentangle and San Dieguito Synchronized Swimming (3/18/21)

San Diego's Premiere Synchronized Swim Club

Funny thing, I've always loved watching synchro swimming on TV, YouTube and of course, the Olympics.  When Danielle, the head coach and Director of San Dieguito Synchronized Swim Club, emailed me and asked if I would teach a Zentangle class to her swim team I quickly emailed back with of YES. 

Danielle shared that all the Zoom meetings the kids had been in, they could use a relaxing class to de-stress.  She came to the right place.  Zentangle is a meditative art method.  Even in Zoom mode, the process of drawing helps the artist relax, focus and get into a state of well-being -  happy place.  Best part:  no rulers, no erasers, no mistakes.  

I designed a Zendala class with the swimmers in mind.  The girls were sitting outside on basketball court, and using their phones, did a Zoom Zentangle class.  That was a first for me - outside, Zoom. 

It went over well, and we finished before dark - thank goodness.

 

'I am hoping to visit the team for a event in the future.  

Introduction to the Zentangle Method

 Today's class, 3/13/21,  was a private Zoom gathering of friends learning to tangle. I love sharing this art method.  Zentangle has been around since 2009 but still so many folks have not heard of this secret gem.  

Zentangle was designed by Rick Robert and Maria Thomas.  They created Zentangle for those that were intimidated by art.  A big surprise to them, that it also turned out to be a meditative experience.  

If you haven't sat in on a basic or introduction class with a certified Zentangle teacher, you are missing the boat.  A certified Zentangle Teacher has been trained to teach the method the way it was designed by the co-founders.  You will learn the history, philosophy, applications and steps of creating an original Zentangle tile.  You don't get "it", till you do "it".

Spring is coming - Zentangle Birdhouses are here

March 6th, we Zoomed into Zentangle birdhouses. With a year of COVID under our belts this month and folks starting to get vaccinated, Spring is breaking through with light at the end of the tunnel from social distancing. Birds need a place to do their thing and create babies.  Using the Zentangle Method, we tangled a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art).  The "string" looked a lot like birdhouses -  wink wink. No matter what the string - tangles can be applied anywhere.  Look at these cookies I found at Trader Joe's serval years ago.  I was so surprised to see the pattern Bales on the cookie.

Are the birdhouses adorable?  Fun class and great company during Zoom.

ZOOM Zentangle Love Birds Class

 2/20/21, we Zoomed into a Zentangle class with Love Birds as the project.  This month is my wedding anniversary of 20 years.  Hence, the love bird class.

This project we call a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired art)  
because typically Zentangle art is abstract - no up or down. 
Being in San Diego, we love having folks from out of town join class. 
Barbara is joining us from San Jose, California and
Kristin is joining us from Indianapolis, Indiana.

Zoom snap shot

Using the Zentangle Method, we used the outline (string) of two birds and a heart to add tangles to pop the picture. Whether you choose to color or not, the tangles make each piece come to life.  If you choose black and white without color, add some shading to add that third color (gray) on your art.

Zoom Zentangle Valentine Card Class

Can't believe it is February - the days just run into each other with this pandemic.  The only savior for me is teaching Zentangle Zoom classes.

Today we created Valentine Card with the Zentangle Method, to send a love one we haven't seen or a family/friend that doesn't have anyone living with them. Sometimes a smile is all someone really needs.  A personalize card brings a smile to everyone that receives it.

Pics are as clear as being there, but you get the idea.  Everyone received the same instruction but a all different in their own way because we are individuals.

This is a gee whiz part of the sharing time of our art today.  Peggy asked earlier if her daughter Amanda could join us today.  I said of course.  Amanda was a little late for class.  No problem.  At end of class she was hesitant but finally held her card up and it said "BABY DADDY".  The other participants in the class new Amanda and we all said "what does that mean?"  She had a great big grin on her face and said - "I'm going to have a baby".  We all shouted and it was so exciting to be on the foreground of the big news. Thanks Amanda for sharing with us all.
