Pineapple

My first attempt at a pineapple... This is a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art)

Rules of Zentangle

The first rule is there are no rules.  It isn't like other art.  If you can hold a pen, you can create tangles.  Every tile is made up of three things.

1.  Tile - a tile is a square (3.5 x 3.5) or circle that you apply the patterns on.

2.  String - the string is the line that divide the tile into smaller pieces to be filled with patterns.
It is random how you draw your string.

3.  Repeating patterns - the patterns fill the spaces created by drawing a "string".  There are hundreds of patterns to draw (with step-by-step instructions) and we encourage you to make up new tangles.  Example:

Remember there are no rules !!!

Super Saturday

Gotta cut some hair today at the salon... so this was inspiring today !!!

Sometimes leaving a area blank, or unfinished gives it a whole new look.
Can you find the two areas?

What will my first tile look like?

This is what your first Zentangle lesson might look like.
I know, yes, you can do that !!!

What pen should I use?

Sukura Micron pens are the best.
You will be using mostly the number 01

Where will you find Zentangle?

You can find this new art form anywhere.
This is on an electrical building in Canada.

What is a string?

Strings are the foundation that helps us create our Zentangle without thinking or planning.
Strings are always drawn in pencil.
They usually disappear on their own once a tangle/pattern is drawn.

Difference between doodle and Zentangle

Doodles are mindless drifting scribbles  (aimless, unfocused, done while doing something else, unstructured/chaotic)  and tangles (the patterns of Zentangle) are deliberate and thoughtful (mindful, done with intent, focused, purposeful, sole activity, attention in the moment, helpful activity) and take you to a place of calm, and redirection your  thoughts to a better place and let you Zen out away from stress, fear, anxiety, sad, bored, etc., and/or just let you create something beautiful.

Flower are always a good thing
My tangle today was inspired by Helen Williams.
Happy Monday, I know for most of you, Monday is a reminder that the weekend is over...
but for me (being a hairdresser), it's my Sunday funday
and everyone else is at work so it's my favorite day !!!

Try to tangle this picture.                                       This is my interpretation...
This is what I meant  "you will start seeing tangles everywhere".
Can you see it?

What is a CZT?

 Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT)

What does CZT mean?  A CZT has travel to Rhode Island and completed several day workshop with Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas (founders of Zentangle).  They have studied the patterns and understand the philosophy behind the art form.  There is a big difference between Zentangles and doodles (See my post). At the closing of this workshop, you are certified to teach the method.

How To Learn?

Attend a class with a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher).
Find one in your area by going to Zentangle.com/CZT

You will be given a beginners kit and shown the basic method.
The rest will be a love for the rest of your life.

MUST BE SPRING

It's lighter later, my plumeria plants are getting leaves,
and the stores are selling Easter Candy.
MUST BE SPRING !!!

This is Rick and Maria (co-founders of the Zentangle Method).
Just to show you - you can tangle anything !!!

Sunny day Saturday

Who would have thought that this little 3.5 x 3.5 tiles could bring such joy
to a non artistic person.  I don't draw... I call them stick people.
Being a hairdresser by trade, one of my friends was surprised
when she found out I didn't know how to draw hair.
I told her I cut hair, not draw it - big difference.
Rho Densmore and I did found some tangles to represent hair on my tangle folk.
Now I can draw hair.
Thank you Zentangle for letting me create art.
So simple and easy to do when you are just connecting lines.

2003 I traveled to Hawaii for the first time and have been back every year since.
That is when I began playing the ukulele.
This piece joins my two found loves -
 Zentangle and ukulele

What's better than one ukulele?  Two!!

Inspired by the book "The Art of Zentangle"

Monday Project

This project at Zentangle Monday Club was cool.
Four of us took one "string" and each of us chose a favorite tangle.
We applied the four favorite tangles.
Same string, same patterns but totally different results.

Tangles used were bales, 'nzepple, poke leaf, printemps, and one other of our choice.

Got a couple minutes at work? today's piece

Patterns:  flux, hollibaugh, chainlea, bead by bead & poke root

Color My World

Make the world a better place with a splash of color !!
I got this idea from my living room rug.

Today was Zentangle Club at my house.
Project of the day was to tangle on a vase I found at Michael's
and they all came out so different.
We used an IDENTI PEN.  Fun project. Good job girls !!!

I just love these little "tangle folk".
Billie Lauder is the proud designer of the idea.
She has a book coming out soon.  Hurry Billie, hurry !!!
