Grandmother and Grandaughter Zentangle Day

Earlier this year,  one of my students - Kathy asked if I'd be intersted in teacing a Introduction to Zentangle Class for her grandaughter (Aleah that is 15) that was going to visit San Diego this summer from Washington State.   Now how could I turn down an opportunity to bring two generations apart together?  Our class was at my home today and  low and behold when Kathy and Aleah arrived -- Kathy brought some art to share with me of Aleah's tangles she already started drawing.  My only regret is I didn't take a picture of her "San Diego Fair" worthy art of a Zentangle (drawn my hand, not traced) Bear.  Very impressive.

I taught an introduction tile and then I taught a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) with a turtle.  The patterns we used are on the last picture of my spinner board.

P.S.  Kathy, your grandaughter is adorable.  Very nice young lady.  Thanks you for sharing her today.

Tangle on ladies.

                                                                      Aleah's turtle...

To My Surprise

On my vacation to Maui this week, we took a day trip to Moloka'i ( a remote island near- not even a stop sign on island).  In one of the little stores I found this treasure and was shocked  and surprised at the same time.  It wasn't really a book, but a couple pages with this cover sheet on top and Title.  I believe a Certified Zentangle Teacher goes to or lives on Mokokai'i is name is Jason Poole I believe. He plays ukulele and hula.  The story goes that he performed when he was attending the seminar to become a Certified Zentangle Teacher.  HOW COOL IS THAT.  Being a ukulele player and dabble in hula I would have loved to been there.

Class after Zentangle class... I never get tired of sharing this amazing art form

Saturday tangling at Beverlys Fabric Introduction to Zentangle.

Do I need a class from a Certified Zentangle Teacher?

Most Introduction to Zentangle class I teach, I asked if anyone has heard about this art form before?  The typical response is "no".  Sometimes I hear  "I've been learning on the computer".
At the end of class, after being instructed by CZT, I ask  - did they learn anything?   Every time the
answer is "I learned so much more than I have seen on the computer.

During the four days seminar in Providence Rhode Island that each CZT attends, Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, the co-founders, instruct each one of us in the same manner they designed the art form. To promote a beautiful, easy to do piece of art and along the way become calm/relaxed/de-stress.

Do yourself a favor.  Find a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) in your area.  If you don't know
how to find one on your own.. go to Zentangle.com  (The HUB of  Zentangle).

If you are in the San Diego area, look at my classes on this blog.  If you don't see a good date for class with me, email me, I'll come up with a class for you.    Come and tangle with me.

Just a WARNING:  Zentangle can be addictive !!!

We opened our minds and let the calm in at my Introduction to Zentangle class.
I noticed one student in my intro class from before -  well she brought 3 of her friend to learn to tangle. Ahhhh that was so cool  I always say, it's more fun to tangle with a friend
Fantastic "artist" showed up today. F.Y.I. - The definition of "artist" is one that engages in art

Thanks for coming Barbara, Meg, Susan, Lynda, Judy, Helene, Pat, Jill, Jodie, Pamela.  I even had a visit from a newly Certified Zentangle Teacher.  Thanks for coming Elaine !!  Welcome

Students post on a class I taught (Had to share) A+

"Organic Garden" class June 3, 2015

Once again Janet Masey (CZT) has stretched my artistic endeavors with another challenging class!  For this ZIA we were introduced to 16 patterns and 2 embellishments, along with 3 shades of 5" X 7" paper (I chose tan tone), gray pen, white charcoal pencil, and the standard Micron pen, graphite pencil, and "snubber".

Once we were familiar with the patterns Janet said, "OK, Get started."

Starting in the "front" and along the "bottom" of the paper I briefly put down a "string" to help locate a few items - like the wall - then picked up my pen and began ... this is the result ...

I'm pleased with this first one.  I didn't use all of the patterns as I wanted to leave a little bit of negative space, and didn't want my garden to look too overgrown and wild!  Can you find the two bijous (snails)??

Everyones turned out differently which was cool!  This is one I will do again, and it will look different each time ... Wonder what it would look like on another color paper?  This would make a nice set of "cards" (Ah ha!  Gift idea!!)  Stay tuned ...

Lynne:  A+  for listening to all the details I mentioned in class.     Janet Masey CZT

Who's In My Garden?

I had five gardeners tonight in my Organic Garden Zentangle class
at Beverly's Fabric.  Look what they grew?

Tile not completed (they have homework to do)
but look how fantastic they look thru the process.

Thanks for coming to class Crystal, Lynne, Lynn, Lauren and Mary.
Mary had my Introduction class day before and wanted more - so came to next day class.  Yes, I always say there comes a warning at Zentangle class:
