Zentangle Pumpkin Design Class

Fall is here and Zentangle pumpkin classes are in demand.  Today's class, we learned lots of new tangles that work well on pumpkins at Beverly's Fabric...and used some old favorites too.  Great for holiday house warming gifts !!! You can't buy these in the stores.. yet.
(Three ladies were camera shy. I understand.)

Great start on the pumpkins girls... they are going home with homework (finish Mr. Pumpkin) and then start the other colors (orange/black/white).  WARNING:  Zentangle can be addictive...

P.S. The pumpkins come in many sizes and types.  I prefer the "craft" pumpkin (from craft store - i.e. Michael's - glossy or matte finish).  Some pumpkins have a waxy coating on them and "gunk" up your pen.

Lynne is working on Rick's Paradox tangle.
Linda is working on tangle "Zander"

Don't forget to finish off your pumpkin with some stem topper.
Raffia and artificial leaf's attached with glue gun is what I used below.
You can also add a note tied on with raffia.
I used my business card to give my surgeon a thank you gift (pumpkin) for a job well done.

P.S.  After turning the pumpkin, the stem looses it's color.
You can use brown and black Identipen to re-color.

Branson Missouri Zentangle Tiles

Vacationing in Branson Missouri with "kin folk" for birthday celebration and mini family reunion.  Going from California drought to Missouri green is so nice to take a looooong shower
each day.  Zentangle mini kit goes everywhere with me.

Tangle folk Zentangle Class

TGIF. We all got whimsical this evening at my Tangle Folk Class.

Billie Lauder is the inventor of "tangle folk" people. I've waited three years to buy her book, but she hasn't published it yet. Please Billie !!! We all want it ASAP. People love these little folks.
Didn't the ladies do a great job?

Thank you Rho Densmore for tile idea from one of our CZT 2014 fall meet up !!!

Big Introduction to Zentangle® class today at San Diego Oasis

I never tire watching students get the ah-ha moment of the simplicity of learning the Zentangje Art Method.  If you can write your name - you can tangle.  My class of 22 students today at San Diego Oasis was fun to watch them see the ease of designing a piece of art and in that time relax de-stress and focus, leaving them thirsty for more...

Leaky Micron Pen???

Tip from a fellow Certified Zentangle® Teacher;  Caren Mlot, CZT:

Did you know that the microns can leak if they are shaken up? It sometimes happens during shipping, from the package being thrown around (the mail/UPS people are probably about as gentle as the luggage handlers at an airport!) But they can also start to leak if YOU shake them. If you're the kind of person who talks with your hands, you should make sure you're not holding a Micron when you talk. Here's what my pen looked like.

But did you also know they can be cleaned and almost always be perfectly fine to use again? Wash off all the ink on the pen, then rinse out the inside of the cap. Use a q-tip to wipe around inside the cap, rinse again, and keep doing that until the q-tip comes out clean. If you don't clean out the cap and just put it back on the pen, it will get all inky again. I've saved a few pens by following these steps.

Here's hoping that you don't have to clean a leaky pen too often!

Thanks for the tip Caren..

Do you need a class from a Certified Zentangle Teacher to learn to tangle?

Several weeks ago, I got to meet Mary when she attended one of my Introduction to
Zentangle Art Method classes.  Three weeks later, Mary came to her third Zentangle class
of mine (and brought friends)   She shared with me a couple of tiles she had drawn just with
the information from the Internet she found and then she showed me some tiles she had
completed after getting a class from a Certified Zentangle Teacher --me !!!

You be the judge....  the first two tiles are learning off the Internet...

Or these tiles after taking classes from a Certified Zentangle Teacher....

The below tiles (that is what the paper is called) is full of color even though it is just a black
and white piece.  The shading, the contrast, the interesting placement of tangles (that what we
call patterns)  but most of all it looks complicated and intricate yet easy enough for someone
with no art experience necessary to accomplish is what makes it much more interesting from
a CZT.  I say, if you can write your name, then you can tangle.

Wow...good job Mary.  A+   --- thank you for coming to class and sharing all your tiles.

Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas (the co-founders of this art form) hold six - 4 day seminars
per year in Providence, Rhode Island.   All  CZT's have attended to become certified.  Rick and Maria taught each of us the history,  theory, and knowledge in the same way they want the art
method to be taught to our students in which it was designed.  From the correct way to draw the structured patterns, to the embellishments, the shading, and all the tiny extra help to make the
most out of your art.   (i.e. the art form as well as the process of relaxing, de-stressing, therapy
and meditation.)   Rick and Maria took the "hard out of art".

There is a whole world of CZT's that we keep in touch with thru websites, Facebook,  Clubs/meetings, workshops, retreats to share with each other the world of Zentangle and how
we can become even better teachers of this art form. This community of folks are dedicated to
give our students the best we have and all the knowledge we find/share.

Someone might share with you how to Zentangle  (we call it tangling)  and we want everyone
to share Zentangle because it is amazing, but after you get exposed to Zentangle, look up a CZT
in your area and take at least one class. I bet you can't take just one class ... If you can't find a
CZT on your own,  go to Zentangle.com (the official website)  under teachers and find the closes one to you.  You would be surprised to see that we are located all over the world.

If you want the whole experience...... take a class from a Certified Zentangle Teacher,
I guarantee you will be amazing at the difference, just like Mary.

(with each class I tell my students.... WARNING: Zentangle can be addictive)

RECOVERY HAPPENS

Today I was asked to host a booth at
Exhibition Fair "Recovery Happens" in Balboa Park in San Diego California.
Love sharing the Zentangle Art Method.  Her are a couple pics from the day !!!

Thank you Sharon, Crystal and Lynne for helping me pull off a fantastic day showing that Zentangle is art therapy even if we almost melted on a unusual hot day in  Balboa Park San Diego.

Beyond Basic Zentangle Class-

What a great class.  This Beyond Basic Zentangle class at Beverly's Fabric yesterday was so exciting.

We went over the importance of "string theory" and nine new, more difficult tangles, embellishments, a great tile (that I posted below) with tangleations (two tangles together) and last but not least how to trace an object to fill in with tangles.  Facebook Ornation Creation is great location to get templates for tangles. They are pretty detailed templates. You can always leave out some of the lines to open up more tangling space !!!

Great job, Janice, Jeanine, Mary, Trudy, Susan, Sharon and Crystal !!!  P.S. Hope you are feeling better Trudy.

This is the nautilus template.
