Scarecrow Coloring Page Zentangle Style

Why not make your own coloring page?  That is what we did today at Kensington/Normal Heights Library in San Diego.  Using the Zentangle Method, we made a string (that looked like a scarecrow) and applied fragments of patterns to embellishment this Fall scene.

Whether black and white or adding color... this little scarecrow would melt anyone's heart.

Wholey Hollibaugh at the Library

Today's class at University Community Library in San Diego, we tried a new technique for shading.  Using a monotangle (one pattern) - Hollibaugh - we used circles as our string and the behind technique, with shading.  Awesome fun class.  Good job everyone.

Girls Scouts Get Tangled Up

When Girl Scout Troop # 4471 asked me to teach a Zentangle class at University Community Library in San Diego, how could I say no?  The girls were actually from the very elementary school I went to (Hawthrone).

Some of my fondest memories were my six years as a Girl Scout leader. A look down memory lane of pics of my troop, my daughter in uniform and awards ceremony. Back in 1990'ish

The Girl Scout Troop today were spunky and fun to teach.  Kids love the Zentangle Method because there are no rulers, no erasers and no mistakes.  Actually - who doesn't love that?

Having a Zentangle class for a troop (boys or girls) is a great way to earn your health/wellness/art/meditation/drawing badge. Thank you Tiffany for inviting Zentangle into your troop.   Good job kids.

Dia de los Muertos at North Clairemont Library

I love Fall and all the fun Zentangle classes I teach that come with this season.  Today was Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Mask.

If you go to Old Town in San Diego, this is a big affair.  You can get your face painted and attend parades etc.

 Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is not a Mexican version of Halloween. Though related, the two annual events differ greatly in traditions and tone. Whereas Halloween is a dark night of terror and mischief, Day of the Dead festivities unfold over two days in an explosion of color and life-affirming joy. Sure, the theme is death, but the point is to demonstrate love and respect for deceased family members. In towns and cities throughout Mexico, revelers don funky makeup and costumes, hold parades and parties, sing and dance, and make offerings to lost loved ones.

At North Clairemont Library in San Diego, since I couldn't paint faces for class, I designed a mask instead.  What a fun time we had using fragments of Zentangle patterns to create this lovely mask.   Eleven excited folks create their own version of Dia de los Muertos.  'Ole

Rancho Santa Fe Pumpkin Fun

Pumpkins have arrived at Rancho Santa Fe Library (San Diego County).  Thanks to the generous Rancho Santa Fe Library Guild, sixteen lucky ladies tangled their way to a beautiful faux pumpkin 10/12/19.

If you haven't had a chance to visit this library, I would advise you to take the drive and check out this library with it's many rooms of interest. While you are here, have lunch and see the town as well. I thought I'd introduce Alcohol Ink as a background color for our faux pumpkins (can be purchased at Michael's Craft Store).  Alcohol Ink is a very liquid media that blends into each other and creates amazing backgrounds to use the Zentangle Method on. 

These are a couple of my previous Alcohol Ink tiles I created.

For the pumpkins, we dripped alcohol inch to give a bit of fun to our orange pumpkins.

Whether your pumpkin is white, orangle, black, teal, purple... you will have a beautiful decoration to give away  as hostess gift for the Fall Holidays or keep to use again next year.
