As I do each year for my grandson's classroom - October 23, 2026, I visited my grandson's first grade class at Pepper Drive School in San Diego, California to share The Zentangle Method.
Kids LOVE Zentangle. Best part of Zentangle - no rulers, no erasers, and no mistakes.
As soon after we started "tangling" one first grader said, "this is so relaxing". I have taught in each of my grandson's T-K and kindergarten class before, so the kids were very eager to have another class. I volunteer in class each week and when the kids see me, they ask, "are we are going to Zentangle today"?
One first grade girl came up to me after class and said, "BEST DAY EVER". I love all the positive response after each class, be it young kids, teens, men, women or seniors. Always the same.
On a sad note, the day before class I heard that my brother had passed unexpectantly, and I didn't think I could teach the next day. Zentangle is a meditative art method. I always tell the kids, "If you are mad, upset, sad... just tangle. So, I shared with the kids that I almost didn't come today because of the situation but remembered if you are sad... tangle. Boy, am I glad I went. The kids always bring a smile to my face and tangling was so very helpful that sad day.
