Holmes Elementary Goes Pumpkin Cra Cra

I spent an hour with my oldest granddaughter, Chloe today AND 28 of her 5th grade classmates at Holmes Elementary School in San Diego, California.   Mrs.McTaggart asked me to share Zentangle with her class.  When choosing what to "tangle", I let Chloe choose the project - she asked me to create a Zentangle pumpkin.

With Halloween just passing and Thanksgiving just around the corner - pumpkins made since.  The pumpkin was perfect because the pumpkin is already sectioned off.   We can fill in our patterns with out creating a string.
See the sections on this artificial pumpkin?  Pumpkin can be purchased at Michael's Craft Store. I avoid any "waxy" pumpkins - pen doesn't work well on the waxy pumpkins.

We tangled two whimsical pumpkins on paper with these tangles:  Barber Pole, Chainlea, Knase, Florz, Tipple, Zander, Poke Root, Printemps, Bales, Onamato, and a crowd favorite -  Zingers

You probably are wondering what's up with the names of the tangles?  Zentangle pattern names are random and don't represent anything.  Hence, keeps you from thing about the name - more about the lines - just draw the lines or circles - keeps your mind in a meditative state and out of a negative thought. When you put pen to paper you get out of your head (thoughts).

Every Zentangle patterns is so easy a child can draw them with the "step-outs".  Step-outs are the simple steps of how to draw all the patterns.

I left one section opened on the pumpkin so all the kids could design their own tangle (kids love to design their own tangle).  Best part about Zentangle - no erasers, no rulers - NO MISTAKES.

  29 pumpkins in all

Look at those happy faces - even Mrs. McTaggart !

(FYI - Mrs. McTaggart gave me the "okay" for these pictures to be taken).

Our oldest Granddaughter Chloe.  Isn't her "tangle" beautiful?  Just like her.

I love teaching the kids Zentangle.
