Fundraiser? Have a Zentangle Class

I was asked to teach a class for Soroptimist International of Vista/North County in San Diego area.  Being one of two fundraisers meetings, I created a Zentangle class with a casino twist.

Soroptimist International of Vista, San Marco and Escondido to give education grants to women who have faced extraordinary hardships, yet are determined to pursue and achieve their educational and professional goals.

The women were kept in the dark as to what the night event would be.  As the ladies entered and saw it was an art class, I heard what I hear at most my classes, "I can't draw", "I am not an artist", "this will be funny".

After class, they were saying "wow, look what I did", "I can't believe I did this", "can't wait to show the ladies that didn't come tonight".   I close my case. Zentangle is for all those folks that were intimidated by art.  I can't believe some of the students I've taught said they were told in school by their art teacher to NEVER do art.  Can you believe a teacher would stifle a child by saying that?
I wish they could email that teacher a copy of their Zentangle art pieces.

I remember one woman tonight asked if a left handed person can do this.  Of course, I said yes.  When my husband came back to pick me up, he was chosen to pick one of the art pieces for the advertisement for the next fundraiser.  Guess who's art work was chosen for the pic?  You guessed it -Ms. left hander herself.

One of my student stories from the past:  When I finished teaching a basic Zentangle class, a 65 year old woman started crying.  I asked if she was okay?  She said "yes, this is the first art I ever created.  Thank you Jan".  That brought tears to my eyes too.  I love teaching Zentangle.

TIME TO ADMIRE

HAPPY TANGLERS

Thanks Melinda for setting us a lovely evening.

I love teaching Zentangle classes.  I have a friend, Elaine, that has ran over 50 marathons (after age 50).  This is a picture of Elaine and I after one of her marathons.  I went to cheer her on.  Below are the shoes she wears to run.  P.S.  She wears them everyday.

Elaine always told me how wonderful she felt after completing a 26 mile run - besides the bruised toes and sore everything.  The run was elevating, what her body could accomplish when she put her mind to it.  She called it the "A's" she didn't get in school.

I always think of Elaine after each Zentangle class I teach.  The smiles, the excitement, a fresh, new way to create art and all the "thank you" after class. To be able to bring so many smiles, to so many folks life with such a simple, easy-to-do art method sends me to the moon after every class. Then seeing them attending more classes is just the icing on the cake.

Warning comes with each Zentangle class -- Zentangle can be addictive.

Zentangle is a secret gem.  When will you get the bug
