Poway Library Was Very Koi Today

Poway Library, North County in San Diego, got a little fishy at Zentangle class today.  We had about 25 participants join us.  Half of the class had not had a Zentangle class yet.  It was their lucky day.  Even though this wasn't an Introduction to Zentangle class for those "newbies", I like to call basic class -  Zendergarten (kindergarten).   However, they were still able to complete the class.  That's what is terrific about Zentangle.  Most classes anyone can complete.  Zentangle takes the "hard" out of art.

This Dad and his son, Oden joined us today.  Oden was quiet the creative person.  Below is Oden's art work.  He really liked putting the red and black pen together to create a double flow of ink.  I couldn't find the pic I took of his finished art piece, but Oden glued all his papers together like a train.  Kids have the best creative minds.

When teaching a class of kids, I reduce time of class, and enlarge drawing area.

The class learned how to "trace" an image onto their paper and then we tangled new patterns.

After adding tangles (that's what we call the patterns), the class had a choice to apply color or leave black and white.  Most added a hint of red.  Basic Zentangle art is black and white.  That keeps your experience more in the meditation state.  Adding color makes more thought process, not as relaxing. If choosing to add color, you don't need much.  The patterns speak for themselves.  A little color, think of it like a highlight,  goes a long way.  We added a black and red background to the piece to flow the colors of our art work together.

Below is a person very excited about her first Zentangle class.
She made her Koi fish jumping out of the water with the title "happy me".

This adorable little girl came with her family.  A little young to tangle but she completed her own "tile" and used her own stickers for embellishments. Six years old or able to hold a pen and write their name is the best age to start tangling. She was so proud of her work.  I just had to capture that smile.  Remember:  no rulers, no erasers, no mistakes.  NO ART EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
